Works in Progress
MARIE is a story filled with romance, jealousy, love, sex, and secrets.
It also follows the life of a very famous man. But this book is not about him, it’s about her.
It is 1807, and Marie Walewska meets Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte as he enters Warsaw, and in a crowd of thousands, Marie manages to captivate him.
Marie’s husband encourages her to become the Emperor’s mistress in the hope that she will inspire him to help re-establish a country long divided. She does as she is asked, and, in return, he reunites the nation. Initially scandalized by her own actions, she is drawn to Napoleon until, despite herself, she falls in love with him.
Marie follows him to Paris but wonders why he refuses to commit to her despite his professions of love, and feels the weight of her sins. Her years in France are fraught with impatience, insecurity, and loss, as her future hangs in the balance, not knowing if her lover will ever repair her “debased position” and finally leave his wife.
Although rich in historical detail, MARIE focuses on the relationship between Marie and her lover with just enough spice sprinkled in to keep the pages turning!
